Northaven Road // BERNBAUM/ MAGADINI Architects
This Northaven home was designed with both the past and the future in mind. A tornado heavily damaged the original structure in October 2019, and while the insurance company considered restoration, ultimately the decision was made to build new. The design of the new home considers classic mid-century elements while bringing it into the modern era with updated amenities and practical spaces, like a tornado shelter. The home was expanded with an additional 1,000 square feet to accommodate the new amenities and to create elevated entertaining spaces.
Universal design elements, like accessible hardware, were chosen specifically for long-term occupation of the home. The open kitchen and living area, in combination with the timeless material selections and the gentle natural light, create a calm, Zen-like atmosphere.
